Monday Mugs - Whatever the heck I want!!

This week at Monday Mugs, we got to pick our own theme! I am using some more pics from yesterday's adventure at the park. Both boys conquered a fear yesterday that they couldn't do last fall when we were last at the park.

Below, Adam was too afraid to climb the "dinosaur bones", but this year, he cautiously did it (with his bro closely behind for support)!!

Though it doesn't at all look steep in the picture, Nick is riding his bike down a very tall terrain from an old barn/shed to the playgroud. If you don'y have control, you will crash into the big twisty slide. This time he had confidence, control, and lots of giggles afterward!

*Priceless*

Everyday, at the beginning of class, the first grade students do independant journal writing for 15 minutes. This week Nick brought home the first complete journal he made since the first day of school. The second one will come home at the end of the year. I was amazed at the little things that meant enough to him for him to want to write and illistrate about it. He's such a special kid and this journal is a very special gift! Below are some of my favorite entries. Someday, when I am old and grey and he has his own family, this book may mean even more to me than it does now, but for today * It's Priceless*

A New Found Love

My New Years resolution this year was to get in shape, eat healthy and loose 15 lbs. I somewhat do this every year but for some reason, this year I am extra determined! I think as a dietitian and working with a bunch of athletic healthnuts since gaining this new job may have something to do with it. If nothing else, I have lots and lots of support partners which is the biggest help in the world! I have lost 7 lb since October and I have 8 more lbs to go.
So, my new found love, aside from eating really healthy, has become running. Until January I have never ran even 10 feet in my entire life (ok, maybe that's a little far fetched, but...) I am now a committed runner. We got the Wii fit and it gives me a trainer and a program and we run. I am up to 1.8 miles each day and days that I have extra time, I run twice. I have completed 25 days, only missing one since the year started and I FEEL GREAT!!! I now truely know what a runners high is and how super great it feels. I can't wait for our foot of snow to melt and warmer weather to arrive so I can get outside and run some more!! I have a new passion and I love it!

So are there any bloggy runners out there with any good tips or advice? I'd love to hear from you.

Dear Boys...

As a Mom I always wonder, am I teaching my kids what they need to know to be well rounded and good, strong, loving men. I know they are very young, but as I reflect, the list below are a few of many essential qualities I hope to teach them .

~ Love one another, through thick or thin
~ Respect authority, ladies, family, friends, elders, and belongings
~ If we hurt each other, always apologize and give a hug
~ Education is important and essential
~ Family is everything, cherish our family
~ We will love you unconditionally
~ You can tell us anything
~ With all decisions, there are always consequences
~ We always help our family and friends
~ Remember you manners
~ Pray
~ Dream, but realize nothing is accomplished without hard work
~ Smile and have fun!!
~ Everyday we are making memories
~ You only have one life to live - live it to the fullest, you'll make mistakes, you will make successes, but leave a legacy you can be proud of!

Wintertime Blues!

It's no secret, winter is not my favorite time of the year. I love Christmas, Valentines Day is lovely, and sledding/snowman building is always a good time, but over all - I do not like winter!
Sooooo...What are some fun things you and your family do when it's too cold to play outside? If you are lucky enough to live in a warm climate, still share you best inside activity ideas! I will compile a list for everyone to enjoy once I receive your responses.
Come on, we can all help each other out!
