True Story Tuesday

Each Sunday after church Nick attends 1st grade Sunday School. It lasts about an hour. I usually sit in the empty room beside his classroom and read a book. I can usually hear most of what the class is learning.
I had to chuckle last week when the class was asked "where do you go when you die?" They were hinting at 'heaven' as the right answer. Nick was called on to answer the question. His response...the graveyard! Ohh so true his teacher said, but where does you spirit go...he then replied 'heaven'. It was a cute & innocent morning laugh.
Enjoy your day everyone!!

True Story Tuesday

It's all in good fun...right? Every time I am able to participate in this blog post, it generally means my children have somehow embarrassed me or have done something only a mother could love...and this week is certainly no different!
Nick is not a big fan of Sunday school. He enjoys and comprehends learning about God and religion, but at church or on his own time or during prayer time at home. He feels that 5 days in a classroom are enough so spending Sunday morning after church in a classroom doesn't work for him. I do understand, he is almost 7 and a little boy.
Well, in not my proudest moment as a mother, I unfortunately tried to strike a deal. It back fired - BIG TIME!
I told him if he went to Sunday school willingly and easily, I would take him to get a toy when we where done (I know...like I said, not my proudest "Mom Moment".
I was helping with class on this day (last Sunday) and my son raised his hand. His teacher called on him. Oh no...here it comes! He asked "when is class going to be over? Mommy said I can get a toy when we get done if I didn't argue about coming to class"
Lovely.

True Story Tuesday - $1.00!

We went to a family reunion on Sunday. It was nice and the kids had a great time. This year they had more planned children's activities than ever. My kids loved everything from the pinata to the HUGE playground near by. The also loved the peanut scramble - and loved to embarass their mother after the peanut scramble!
The object of the scramble was, if you get a colored peanut shell, you won a prize! Nick was a lucky winner. He went to claim his prize from a relative who was handing out the prizes. He won one dollar. He was SOOOO excited and immediately wanted to go to Wal Mart and buy a toy! I told him he needed a little more money than $1.00 to buy the toy he suggested getting.

In his 6 year old innocence, he went and asked the same relative if he could have some more dollars so he could buy something good! Everyone got a good laugh and Nick understood that one dollar was a great prize and he can save it and add to it.

True Story Tuesday

You just never know what a 3 year old is going to say, and mine is certainly no exception!

The phone rang last Saturday morning. Adam grab the kitchen phone and answered it. I was walking towards the kitchen with another cordless in my hand. Having caller id I could see that is was my Mom.

Knowing that I was about to answer the call at my end, Adam yells -

"it's ok Mommy...I got this call under control. It's Mimi and her and I are just talking"

It's so nice to have an answering service that has everything under control!

True Story Tuesday - Birthmarks!

Ray was giving both boys their bath Monday night and I overheard him say "Adam, you have a birthmark on your back, I never noticed that before." I went in to see and saw that Nick had a puzzled look on his face. He asked "What's a birthmark?" We explained it and he seemed satisfied with the answer.

Later, as I was tucking Nick onto bed he said, very innocently, "Mom I used to have one of those skidmarks like Adam has on his back when I was 3 but I scrubbed it off!"

It was hard not to laugh hystericallly in front of him because he was so sincere and after a brief explanation, he realized that birthmarks are waterproof and that he never had one.

Kids say the funniest things - hehe.

True Story Tuesday - Baby Birdy

My children are always making me laugh. There is never a dull moment in my house. It's such a good thing that "laughter is the best medicine."
The other day we were outside playing and the boys stumbled upon a dead baby bird. This thing was stiff as a bored and crispy! Adam, in full little boy mode, picked up the bird and ran across the yard to show me his new treasure. I said "Adam, put that down, it is dead, dirty, and yucky. We don't pick up dead animals." He responded, in a purely thoughtful and innocent manner, "Mommy, Nanny likes birdies, let's put it in a box and wrap it pretty. We can give it to her for a present, she will like it." Just what my grandmother wanted ~ a dead bird, in full rigor, wraped in a box with a pretty bow! She laughed and laughed when I told her the story. Let's just say, baby birdie was snuck into the garbage when Adam wasn't looking.
Have a great Tuesday everyone!

True Story Tuesday - Pickles!

This is my first True Story Tuesday post!!
I usually prefer to grocery shop by myself because bringing my family along costs me a lot more money!! As I was feeling generous Sunday evening, I asked Adam if he wanted to come along (he's the lesser of the 3 evils as far as asking for things I don't really want to buy).

He usually has to sit in the front "seat" in a cart so I can keep him contained while I shop, but I let him sit in the back, if he stayed on his bottom. The cart quickly filled with groceries and we went to the checkout to pay and leave. Adam wanted to help me unload the cart and put the food on the conveyor belt. Everything was going good and he was actually pretty helpful!!
Then he decided to lift something that might have been too heavy for him...

...the big jar of pickles! It didn't quite make it to the conveyor belt. CRASH!! Yes, he dropped a big jar of pickles on the floor. In case any of you were wondering - pickles jars don't just break - they EXPLODE!! The kind workers at Food Lion told him not to worry about it and they quickly and pleasantly began to clean the mess. They got out numerous towels, mops, floor cleaner, etc.

Adam looked at the poor lady who had to clean his pickle mess and said -

" Lady, it looks like you made a mess!"
