What Would You Children Say Wednesday?

It's that time again to embarrass your children! To follow go on over to Marianne's blog at http://familyamericanstyle.blogspot.com/

I have a really funny one this week - but I will warn you here - please don't be offended and PLEASE, PLEASE don't think we talk like this at home, especially around our children - because we don't. Wow, after that introduction, are you curious?

We are doing our night time routine and Nick is practicing his word ring. He stops between words and says "I have a question." We asked him what his questions is and he said, "What are my nuts?". I very quickly asked him where he heard that at. He told me he heard some kids on the playground talking about their nuts and wanted to know if he had them. His Dad politely explained what the children were referencing to and then that we don't talk like that. Well, the funniest part was yet to come. Nick's response to this conversation was "Oh, I was wondering what those round, bumpy things are." At this point I had to leave the room so I could laugh.

You never know what kids are going to say!!

Tuesday Blog Hop

Three things every parents should teach their children. It's really hard to pick three. I have so many but these three are pretty close to the top of my list.

1. Respect - Children need to learn respect for their siblings, parents, peers, elders, animals, toys, belonings, home, and themselves.
2. Manners - There is nothing worse than a child without manners. With manners come gratitude. Simple words like please and thank-you will get you far in life. I love it when I am told how polite my children are. I feel good as a parent and I am proud that I have mannerly children.
3. Play, dream, and enjoy life. You are only little and carefree for such a short time. The world is yours. Embrace your creativity and enjoy your opportunities.

I found this link on the Beach Family Blog. It looked like fun and brought back some memories.
This picture is from a fun weekend at IUP - the college years...hmmm. I have many good pics from these days but this was the handiest at the moment. Good friends Jeff, Amanda, Jeffrey, Ray (my hubby), and me. We all look so young and carefree. Now all of these people, but one, are married with children, careers, and mortgages. Funny how time changes things. Thanks for the link Jamie - it's a fun one!!

Not Me Monday

I did not play "Wonder Pets" on our swing set all evening with my children. The fort on the swing set was not the "fly-boat" and Nick was not Lenny, Adam was not Tuck, and I most certainly wasn't Ming Ming....we did not laugh a lot and have a great time!!

I most certainly didn't scrub my kitchen floor and lay down my 2 new rugs only to discover I bought 2 different rugs. They most certainly didn't look exactly the same except the stripes were going in two different directions.

I did not mistakingly go to the freezer to get a coffee cup this morning at 5:30am- that would be silly. Coffe cups are kept in the cupboard!

I did not blush and become flustered when Nick shared his new language of the "human anatomy" that he learned on the playground during recess. I did not tell him that 5 1/2 year old do not talk like that and then run to get his father to have a little "father son talk".

I was not thrilled when "Big Green Tractor" came on the radio and I did not keep putting it on repeat with the satelite Sirius radio in my car because my kids LOVE that song and were good for the remainder of the car ride.

I'm now a soccer Mom!

This is Nick's soccer game. Every Saturday at 11:00am. He absolutely loves it!!! There is a lot more action than t-ball. I must say, I find myself getting a little more excited during games than I ever thought I would. What fun!!! Nick is wearing a yellow jersey and he is number 2.

A Date With The Ducks

We brought one big sand bucket full of corn and a we all had a great time feeding the many ducks at our local pond. This pond is beside Nick's school and he recently had a field trip there. It has always been a favorite spot of ours since Nick was a baby. The have a beautiful pavilion and picnic area and a super park for the kids to play. There is also a nature center to teach the children about gardening, recycling, and vegetation. Fun Place!!

Mowing and Gardening

Ok, I have a little bit of time to post some quick pictures from last week. Below is Adam working hard to keep up with the never ending chore of mowing the lawn and Ray and the boys complete their nightly routine of checking to see how many veggies are ready to pick from our fast growing, overly producing garden.

Busy Weekend!

We were super busy this weekend.
One Friday night I took Adam shopping to pick out his new "theme" for his bedroom. He told me his current Mickey Mouse/Disney theme was for babies and he's a big boy. I think most of this stemmed from his jealousy a few weekends a go when Nick got his room re-done in Transformers. Anyway, he fell in love with a SpongeBob theme. Not the best cartoon for a 2 year old, but he likes it and thankfully doesn't understand most of the underlying themes. With wall stickers, beddings, and many of the finishing touches I couldn't resist, it is super cute but still very fitting for a 2 year old.
Saturday was Nick's first soccer game. It was cold and drizzly but I am proud to say - My son scored a goal!!! It was so exciting!! Soccer is more fun than t-ball because of the constant action, the kids don't have a chance to write their names in the dirt, throw grass and day dream. they truely never stop running.
Ray ripped our tiny old deck off this weekend and his Dad is coming down Friday night to build our new one this weekend. Finally!! - projects move really slow when you do it yourself and the lead carpenter lives 3 hours away. At least it saves me paying for labor:)
Sunday was a quick family reunion - we literally stayed an hour because it was held during nap time and I never skip nap time - especially when Ray was fishing on a lake and I had the kids by myself. Ray gets home around 4:00 and decides to tear my bedroom apart, take down the t.v. stand and purchase a 32 inch flat screen and rearrange furniture. Too bad I was too tired and cranky to start a project on a Sunday evening. No relaxing at my house, just go, go , go!! Lots of pictures to follow soon. Just no time today to post them!!
Have a good week.

Indiana Pa. Bound

Ray left early this morning to go to Indiana for his grandfathers funeral. His grandfather wasn't a real big part of his life and our kids never really knew him and since Nick is in school and I had to work, I am driving up with the boys myself tomorrow morning after breakfast. As long as I remember to pack 3 hours worth of movies for the ride up, we should be fine. I'm basically entertaining them during the formal service tomorrow so we can stretch the car ride out as long as needed. Late afternoon everyone will come back to my father-in-laws house for a get together picnic after the services, so I am planning to take them to IUP for a walk around tour to see where their parents met and went to college. Nick's well aware of what IUP is and he would enjoy seeing the campus. Adam will just like exploring new ground. If anyone from Indiana, or visiting for the weekend, wants to meet up -
give us a yell.

SUCCESS!!

Nick had a wonderful first day of school. He was so excited to tell us all about it. It was a long day for him, he also had his first soccer practice last night too.
This picture shows Nick in the middle (gray shirt and jeans) walking to his class after we had to leave him. They wouldn't let parents pass a certain point. This is when I became a little teary.

Outside the school.

Nick and Dad.

Check out my new backpack and lunch box - Transformers Theme.

On my way to Kindergarten!!
